Renault unveils next generation Trafic at Solutrans-2025
During the Solutrans-2025 event held in Lyon, Renault has introduced a prototype of the next generation of its light commercial vehicle, Trafic, set to be available on the market by the end of next year. The new Renault Trafic will be offered in two significantly different versions based on their drivetrains—one will be fully electric with rear-wheel drive, while the other will feature an internal combustion engine and front-wheel drive. Notably, both models will share a unified chassis and will be built on the same platform, which requires certain compromises in design.
A distinctive feature of the new Renault Trafic is its significantly forward-extended windshield, necessitating the addition of extra roof pillars and side windows situated between the windshield and front doors. The prototype utilizes polymer materials made from recycled resources, which may lead to a lower quality interior compared to its predecessor. The interior will feature a standardized control panel with dual rectangular displays and a limited number of physical buttons for frequently used functions.
Initially, only metal-panel vans will be offered in two sizes, measuring 4870 mm and 5270 mm in length. The cargo space will provide a volume of 5.1 cubic meters for the shorter variant and 5.8 cubic meters for the longer one, with both variants standing at 1900 mm in height.
Further variants are planned, including a chassis cab and a dump truck. The electric version of the new Trafic, designated E-Tech, showcased on November 18, boasts a power output of 201 horsepower and a torque of 345 Nm. The manufacturer claims the electric Trafic will have a driving range of 350 to 450 km, depending on the battery capacity chosen. Production of the new Renault Trafic will take place at the Sandouville plant in northern France, which is also responsible for the production of the outgoing model.
